The founder, Emily Graves, grew up in west Michigan and was introduced to horses and polo matches at a young age.  She continued her relationship with horses throughout her childhood by participating in a local 4-H club and shows.

Today, Dr. Graves is a board-certified, large animal internal medicine specialist.  Since graduating from the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in 1999, she has focused on equine medicine, including an internship in ambulatory medicine at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital and an equine internal medicine residency from 2000-2003 at Michigan State University's College of Veterinary Medicine.  In that period, she also completed a Master of Science degree.  This training provided a background in both general and specialty equine practice.  She then joined a private practice in the south Denver metropolitan area for one and one-half years prior to moving to Fort Collins.  For most of 2005, Dr. Graves worked as an interim, clinical medicine instructor at Colorado State University's Equine Hospital.  Her clinical interests include respiratory illness, endocrinology, gastrointestinal diseases, and the application of diagnostic ultrasonography.
